Car tyres
The only part of your car that makes contact with the road is your car tyres. Therefore, it is important that you have the right tyres underneath your car. There are three types of tyres; summer tyres , winter tyres and all season tyres . So, for the best performance and your safety, you can put per season the right tyres underneath your car.
Summer tyres, winter tyres or all-season tyres
Summer tyres are suitable with temperatures above 7 degrees Celsius. Summer tyres can be used from April until October. The rubber of summer tyres is made for higher temperatures. For this reason, summer tyres will perform less during the winter than winter tyres will.
When the temperature does get below 7 degrees Celsius, we advise you to choose winter tyres . Winter tyres are made for wet, slippery and cold circumstances. Are you looking for a tyre which is suited for all seasons? Then you can consider purchasing all season tyres , also better known as ‘all-weather tyres’ or ‘four season tyres’. So, with all-season tyres, you do not have to switch every season. All season tyres have a specific rubber composition. This way they are suited for all-weather conditions.
Although, it is important to understand that four season tyres perform less during the summer than summer tyres. The same applies for the winter, all season tyres will perform less than winter tyres.
Car tyres pressure
It is important that your car tyres have the right car tyre pressure. The right pressure has an effect on performance. When the pressure is too low or too high, it can affect fuel consumption negatively. Car tyres will also wear faster and your car will consume more fuel. Externally, it will affect the grip and you risk a blowout. You can check your car tyres pressure with a pressure gauge .
Tyre profiles
The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm However, we recommend you to choose for 2 mm or 3mm as minimum tread depth. Too little tyre profile will affect the performance of the car tyre negatively. The risk of aquaplaning will be bigger. Furthermore, the tyre will offer less grip and causes a longer braking distance. Are you curious how much mm profile your tyres still have? You can check this easily with a
profile meter . Is the tyre profile around the 2 or 3 mm? Then we strongly recommend you to purchase new tyres.
Changing tyres
You can choose to change the tyres yourself. With our complete ‘tyre changing set ’ you can do this easily. Of course, you can choose to let the garage do it for you. However, often this will be more expensive than when you do it yourself. If you choose to let them change at the garage, then you could also consider bringing your own car tyres. You can order them at Winparts and let the garage change them for you! This way you will save a lot of money, for new car tyres at a dealer or garage you will pay a lot more than ordering them online at Winparts.
Purchasing tyres
Are you looking for cheap car tyres? Brands like Achilles, Silverstone and Petlas often offer cheap tyres. However, cheaper tyres definitely perform less and wear faster than pricier tyres.
There is certainly a difference in quality between expensive and cheap car tyres. The quality is divided into A-brands and B-brands. Brands such as Michelin tyres, Vredestein tyres and Continental tyres are A-brands. Premium tyres provide more comfort and safety. Furthermore, they do often have a lower rolling resistance, consume less fuel and wear less quickly.
However, the price of those tyres is higher than the B-branded tyres. You can easily buy tyres at Winparts when you know your car tyre size. You can fill in your tyre size at our webshop. The size of the tyre is located on the side of the tyre. Here is an example of such a code: 185/65 R15. Under ‘width’ please fill in the number 185. The ‘height’ is in this case 65 and the ‘rim size’ is 15 inch. After filling in your information, suitable tyres will be shown. The only thing you then have to do is select your favourite brand.
