Belt tensioner and pulley

The belt tensioner and pulleys are part of the car's belt drive. The car's auxiliary belt is kept at the correct tension by the belt tensioner. If the belt tensioner no longer works properly or is not at the correct tension, this can be harmful to other car parts. Too little belt tension causes the belt to slip. When the auxiliary belt slips, it can become extremely hot, which means that it will wear very quickly. Too much tension on the belt also causes a lot of wear. The parts driven by the belt are now overloaded. The belt tensioner is therefore an important part of the belt drive that also exerts a lot of influence on other car parts. We recommend that you regularly check the belt tensioner and pulleys and replace it if necessary. This way you can prevent damage to other car parts, such as the water pump and the alternator.

Belt tensioner defective

A number of symptoms can indicate that the car's belt tensioner is defective or no longer working properly. The most common symptom of a failing belt tensioner is a slipping or squeaking noise while driving. Especially when the tensioner has become too loose, the belts can make a squeaking sound.

Another symptom is belt wear. Failure of the belt tensioner to function properly can cause the belt to wear faster. This can be noticed by cracks that arise in the belt. In this case, prevent the belt from breaking by replacing the belt tensioner and pulleys rollers in time. Breaking the belt will prevent the engine from being properly cooled. Also, the battery is no longer charged and steering will be a lot more difficult.

In the event of a failing or defective belt tensioner, it is also possible that the parts that are driven by the belts no longer work (properly). Think of the alternator and the water pump. These parts are no longer sufficiently driven from the belts.

Pulleys defective

The pulleys ensure that surrounding parts such as the water pump are protected against overload and premature failure. The pulley is a part that is easy to replace. We recommend that you always replace the pulleys and belt at the same time as the belt tensioner. This way the belt drive can last for a while and all parts are well maintained and protected.

Replace belt tensioner and pulleys

You can easily replace the belt tensioner and pulleys yourself. Prior to the job you will need to remove the body covers that are in the way. It is then useful to make a drawing of the entire belt drive. This way you can always take a look back at what the whole should look like. The tensioner is easy to unscrew and replace. We recommend that you replace the auxaliary belt and the tensioners at the same time. Our auxiliary belt drive belt kits are also ideal for this, they contain the auxiliary belt as well as the tensioner and pulleys.

Belt tensioner and pulley

The belt tensioner and pulleys are important parts in the belt drive of the car. The belt tensioner ensures that the auxiliary belt always maintains the correct tension. If the belt does not rotate at the correct tension, damage will be caused to other car parts. The tensioner protects drive components such as the water pump and alternator from overload and abrasion. This protective tensioner prevents premature failure of the drive components. You can easily order the right belt tensioners and pulleys for your vehicle online at Winparts. Select the car model and the correct car parts will then be displayed.
