Steering angle sensor
The steering angle sensor measures whether there is a difference between how much the steering wheel has been turned and the direction in which the car is travelling. Is there a difference? Then the car is probably understeering or oversteering. In the case of understeer, the steering angle sensor ensures that the inside wheel brake is activated to correct the difference. In the case of oversteer, the outside wheel brake is activated.
There are currently two different types of steering angle sensors: an analogue sensor and a digital sensor. An analogue sensor measures information based on voltage differences over the angle and direction of rotation of the steering wheel. A digital sensor uses a small LED light and transmits this information to the car's computer system (ECU). Is the sensor defective? Then this can cause problems. In emergency situations, the vehicle cannot be corrected.
Steering angle sensor broken
Just like the other sensors in the car, the steering angle sensor can wear out or fail. If the sensor fails, you can recognise this by the following symptoms:
The traction control light on the dashboard illuminates. This light comes on as soon as something is wrong with the electronic stability system. The steering wheel feels loose or there is play in the steering. The car drives differently after a front-end alignment. A front-end alignment is intended to align the front wheels and the steering wheel. Sometimes the mechanic may have forgotten to reset the steering angle sensor. Replacing the steering angle sensor
You can replace the steering angle sensor yourself, provided you have some technical knowledge or experience with car maintenance. Replacing this sensor involves many steps and requires you to remove and reassemble several parts.
Would you rather have the steering angle sensor replaced by a professional? Car parts often cost more at the garage than when you order them yourself. Order the new steering angle sensor cheaply at Winparts.
