Reverse light switch

When reversing in the dark, it is useful to have a good view of everything around the car. The tail lights of the car often give off a dark, red light that makes it difficult to see what is happening behind you. That is why the reversing lights were created. However, these should only illuminate when the car is in reverse. That is why the lights are equipped with a reversing light switch. This switch ensures that the reverse lights only come on when the reverse gear is engaged.

The reverse light switch is located in the gearbox of the car. On front-wheel drive cars, the gearbox is located under the hood. With rear-wheel drive, the gearbox is located at the bottom of the car in line with the engine.

Reversing light switch broken

When the reverse light switch is broken, both reverse lights will no longer work. Be sure to check first if the problem can be solved by installing new reversing lights. Are the reversing lights still not working? Then it is important to replace the reverse light switch.

Replacing reverse light switch

When you want to replace the reversing light switch, it is useful to know whether your vehicle is front-wheel or rear-wheel drive. After all, this determines where the gearbox, and therefore the reverse light switch, is located. When the gearbox is easy to reach, replacing the reverse light switch is a simple job. You only have to disconnect the plug, unscrew the switch and replace it with the new variant. Is the gearbox under the car? Then you will first have to jack it up with a car jack. Be sure to support the car with axle stands for extra safety.
